We also aim to make a positive impact on society. We do this in a unique way – by always seeking to improve the working conditions of interpreters and translators. This makes them more effective, for their own benefit and for the benefit of our clients.

Our Story

Yoshida Interpreting and Staffing Services (YISS) was founded in 2011 in the Tokyo area. Founder and Director Yusuke Yoshida already had an extensive background in interpreting and translating, and he saw Japan’s increasing globalization as an opportunity to serve more international and local clients. In time, demand also increased for English language training, and this was added as a service.

Clients’ needs have evolved, and YISS has naturally evolved with them, to include business support beyond interpreting  and translating. YISS increasingly functions as a true cross-cultural bridge for global professionals and for Japanese professionals connecting with the world.

Especially in technical areas, we immerse ourselves in the client’s needs, so that communication is highly accurate and nuanced.

Our services continue to expand, and YISS can now provide interpreter training. This helps interpreters not only become more skilled but also better serve their clients while also developing and marketing their own skills. Many interpreters in Japan fail to leverage their skills and often have to work in subpar conditions. YISS training services are good for the interpreters and the clients, creating higher quality and higher job satisfaction.

Proven on the Global Stage – Our Finest Work

We are proud to have been a language services provider for a major international sporting event held in Tokyo in 2021, and in the lead-up to it. We provided interpreting and staffing services for a British company that was an official sponsor of the event. YISS’s Director devoted his entire schedule to this event, as it required such extensive efforts, and had to overcome a 1-year postponement due to the pandemic.

Yusuke was responsible for managing the human resources of 70+ interpreters. His process started with locating candidate interpreters, then interviewing, hiring, contracting, training, and aftercare.

The event was a success, and YISS’s efforts on behalf of an event sponsor were also a success. We take great pride in this and it lets us move forward with greater confidence and abilities than ever.

Yusuke Yoshida

Language opens new relations and boundaries, and it’s been at the heart of Yusuke’s life. He’s lived an international life from the start, which raised his interest in cross-cultural communication and languages. He grew up in Yokohama and Dallas, Texas, and he’s lived in Sydney, Hokkaido, and the Greater Tokyo area. He’s also visited more than 30 countries.

He moved to Malta with his family in 2023, after the Covid pandemic made remote working commonplace. He continues to manage the projects at the same pace as when he lived in Japan.

Outside of his business activities, he practices tai chi and previously taught at the local community center. He enjoys playing tennis, mahjong, surfing, and yoga.
